Wed Sep 25 09:20:08 UTC 2024: ## Star Wars Fan’s Son Almost Denied Passport Due to “Luke Skywalker” Middle Name

**Suffolk, UK** – A family’s dream vacation was nearly thwarted by a bureaucratic nightmare stemming from a Star Wars-inspired middle name.

Christian Mowbray, a soldier serving in the Corps of Royal Engineers, and his wife Becky, applied for a passport for their seven-year-old son, Loki Skywalker Mowbray. The family, excited to travel to the Dominican Republic for their first getaway since 2014, were met with a shocking rejection.

The UK Home Office, citing concerns about copyright infringement, initially denied the application. They demanded the Mowbrays obtain permission from Disney, the copyright holder for Star Wars, or change their son’s middle name.

The family, who named their son on May 4th (May the Fourth be with You day) as a tribute to Luke Skywalker, found themselves in a frustrating situation. “We understand that Loki’s middle name is copyrighted, but we have no intention of using it for personal gain,” Mowbray explained.

The Home Office’s strict interpretation of passport rules, which prohibit names “subject to a trademark or copyright restriction,” left the Mowbrays fearing they’d have to cancel their holiday. “It’s caused significant stress for the entire family,” Mowbray said.

However, in a happy turn of events, the Home Office ultimately reversed their decision, granting Loki Skywalker his passport and allowing the family to proceed with their trip.

LADbible has reached out to the Home Office and Disney for comment.
