Wed Sep 25 01:17:58 UTC 2024: ## Former Sharks Prospect Eetu Makiniemi Signs One-Year Deal with Philadelphia Flyers
**SAN JOSE, CA** – Former San Jose Sharks goaltending prospect Eetu Makiniemi has signed a one-year contract with the Philadelphia Flyers, the team announced on Saturday. The deal carries an NHL salary of $775,000 and a minor league salary of $200,000.
Makiniemi, 25, joined the Flyers on a professional tryout (PTO) this offseason after injuries hampered his development with the Sharks. He was once considered a top goaltending prospect in the Sharks’ system, acquired in the trade that sent Brent Burns to the Carolina Hurricanes.
Despite showing promise, Makiniemi struggled to find consistent playing time. He made just two appearances for the Sharks in the 2022-23 season, starting one game and recording 23 saves against the Anaheim Ducks. In 18 games with the San Jose Barracuda last season, Makiniemi posted an 8-8-2 record with a 3.14 GAA and a .900 save percentage, including three shutouts.
The Flyers are looking to bolster their goaltending depth after top prospect Alexei Kolosov failed to report to training camp. Makiniemi’s experience and potential make him a valuable addition to the Flyers’ organization.
