**ATLANTA** – The Atlanta Braves have been dealt another blow with the announcement that third baseman Austin Riley will miss the remainder of the season due to a fractured right hand. The news comes after a CT scan revealed insufficient healing since Riley was hit by a pitch on August 18th.
Riley, an All-Star in both 2022 and 2023, was enjoying a strong season before the injury, boasting a .783 OPS in 110 games. His absence adds to the Braves’ growing injury list, which already includes star players Spencer Strider (elbow surgery) and Ronald Acuña Jr. (ACL tear).
While center fielder Michael Harris II and second baseman Ozzie Albies have returned from previous injuries, the Braves will have to rely on former Yankee Gio Urshela to fill the void at third base.
“It’s not where the doctors wanted it to be,” said Braves manager Brian Snitker, expressing disappointment at the news. “He’s still in a cast, so realistically, it was going to be pretty tough for him.”
The Braves, currently in a tight race for the National League East title, will have to navigate the rest of the season without one of their key offensive weapons. The loss of Riley will undoubtedly impact their playoff aspirations, as they face a crucial series against the Mets this week.
