**Seattle, WA** – Thousands of striking Boeing factory workers have rejected the company’s revised contract offer, according to a survey conducted by the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers District 751 (IAMAW). The union announced Tuesday that the survey results were “overwhelmingly clear,” indicating that workers still find the offer insufficient.
The revised offer, presented on Monday, proposed a 30% pay increase over four years, boosting the average annual pay for machinists from $75,608 to $111,155. It also included a doubled ratification bonus of $6,000 and the reinstatement of performance bonuses. However, the survey revealed that workers deemed these improvements inadequate.
The union had previously rejected Boeing’s initial offer of a 25% pay rise over four years and a $3,000 signing bonus, citing inadequate wage growth and benefits. This led to the strike on September 13, which has brought production of key airplane models, including the 737 MAX, to a standstill.
The IAMAW continues to seek a 40% pay rise and the restoration of a defined-benefit pension, which was eliminated in a contract a decade ago. The union has expressed frustration that Boeing did not consult with them before proposing the latest contract, highlighting the ongoing deadlock in negotiations.
“We heard you, and you’ve told us loud and clear that this proposal did not go far enough to address our members’ priorities,” stated the IAMAW in a statement. “We have made it clear that we are ready to schedule mediated or direct talks with Boeing as the path to find a resolution to this strike.”
The strike’s impact on Boeing is already being felt, with delays in deliveries of 737s, 777s, and 767s causing a significant impact on the company’s cash flow. While production of 787s continues in South Carolina using non-union labor, the strike continues to disrupt operations at Boeing’s core facilities. The union’s rejection of the revised contract offer further complicates the situation, leaving the future of negotiations uncertain.
