**New Delhi, India:** Dr. Manmohan Singh, the former Prime Minister of India and renowned economist, celebrated his 92nd birthday today. Widely recognized as the architect of India’s landmark economic reforms in 1991, Singh received birthday greetings from political leaders across the spectrum.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his best wishes, wishing Dr. Singh a “long and healthy life.” Congress leader Rahul Gandhi took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to praise Singh’s “humility, wisdom, and selfless service in shaping the country’s future.”

In a 2004 interview with Shekhar Gupta on NDTV’s “Walk The Talk,” Dr. Singh reminisced about his time at the Delhi School of Economics and the challenging economic crisis India faced in 1991. He outlined the drastic measures taken to stabilize the economy, including a devaluation of the rupee and the dismantling of the License Raj.

Dr. Singh expressed his continued belief in economic reforms while advocating for a more equitable distribution of wealth and addressing social inequalities. He disagreed with the current government’s approach to public sector reform, believing that profitable public sector units should be allowed to grow and compete with the private sector.

Although Dr. Singh acknowledged the political realities of compromise, he emphasized the importance of principled reforms, with a focus on rule of law and a long-term vision for India. He highlighted the Congress Party’s commitment to economic reforms with a human face, aimed at tackling poverty, agricultural challenges, and the plight of the working class.

Dr. Singh emphasized that the Congress, despite facing challenges in the upcoming elections, remains dedicated to the larger reform process in India, ensuring a stable and prosperous future for the nation.
