**Raymond Terrace, New South Wales** – A 58-year-old man, Peter Smith, has pleaded guilty to aggravated animal cruelty after tossing a beloved chicken named “Betty White” into an alligator pen at Oakvale Farm and Fauna World. Smith reportedly wanted to feed the alligator, claiming he “just wanted to feed an alligator.” The incident occurred on January 2nd, shocking families who witnessed the unplanned feeding.

Betty White, a Silkie Bantam chook, was a cherished resident of the wildlife park and played a vital role in their endangered species breeding program. The park’s owner, Kent Sansom, expressed deep sadness over the incident, stating it was the first time in their 43-year history that a member of the public engaged in such cruelty.

Smith’s attorney, Bryan Wrench, described the case as “very unusual” and attempted to downplay the severity of the act by stating that 750 million chickens are killed each year. However, the magistrate, Kirralee Perry, was unconvinced, reminding Wrench that aggravated animal cruelty carries a maximum penalty of two years in prison and a fine of over $24,000.

Smith’s sentencing has been adjourned until November 20th. The incident has sparked outrage amongst animal lovers and highlighted the importance of responsible animal handling within wildlife sanctuaries.
