**Vancouver, Canada** – Apple has pulled the HomePod software version 18.1 beta 2 from testing after numerous reports of the update causing users’ devices to brick. This is the second time in a short period that Apple has been forced to withdraw a software update due to bricking issues. Previously, iPadOS 18 caused similar problems for M4 iPad Pro models.
The issue was first reported by MacRumors forum members, with users claiming their HomePod minis became unresponsive after attempting to install HomePod software 18.1 beta 5. Several users reported needing to reset their devices, but even then, they remained unresponsive and failed to appear in the list of USB devices on their computers.
While Apple has not yet commented on the cause of the issue, the repeated incidents are raising concerns about the company’s software testing procedures. This is particularly alarming given Apple’s status as a trillion-dollar company.
Apple is expected to release a solution to the bricking problem in the coming days.
