Thu Sep 26 06:54:52 UTC 2024: ## Veteran Malayalam Actor Siddique Seeks Supreme Court Protection, Citing AMMA-WCC Feud in Rape Case
**New Delhi:** Veteran Malayalam actor Siddique has approached the Supreme Court seeking anticipatory bail in a rape case, alleging that he is being targeted due to a conflict between two powerful organizations in the Malayalam film industry: the Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA) and the Women in Cinema Collective (WCC).
Siddique claims that the case against him is based on a politically motivated agenda and lacks genuine investigation. In his petition, he highlights the eight-year delay in filing the complaint and the conflicting statements made by the complainant over the past five years.
The petition further alleges that the police investigation has been biased and aimed at framing him. He emphasizes the lack of any prior criminal record and his commitment to cooperate with any court-mandated conditions for bail.
Siddique’s legal team, led by senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi, plans to argue that the feud between AMMA and WCC is the root cause of the case. The team intends to present this conflict before the Supreme Court and argue that Siddique is a victim of this power struggle.
This development comes after a series of controversies surrounding AMMA, leading to the formation of WCC. Following the release of the Hema Committee report, several accusations and legal cases have been filed against prominent AMMA members. This incident is perceived by some as a direct result of this ongoing feud.
Siddique’s legal team has requested an urgent hearing of his petition on Monday. The Supreme Court Registrar has received the request and will present it to Chief Justice D.Y. Chandrachud for a decision on the date and bench for the hearing.
