Wed Sep 25 04:26:19 UTC 2024: ## Mumbai Metro Gets a Boost: Aqua Line’s First Phase Inaugurated

**Mumbai, India** – Prime Minister Narendra Modi will partially inaugurate Mumbai’s first underground metro, the Metro 3 project, also known as the Aqua Line, during his visit to the city next month. This marks the opening of the line’s first phase, a 12-km stretch between Aarey Colony and Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), with 10 stations operational.

The Aqua Line will provide crucial connections for daily commuters, including access to both domestic and international airports. Once fully operational, the line will connect the city’s southern, central, and western parts, linking key areas like Nariman Point, Mumbai Central, Worli, Dadar, and Mumbai International Airport.

While the fare structure is yet to be officially confirmed, it is expected to be similar to existing lines. Passengers will initially receive paper tickets with a QR code, with plans to activate NCMC cards gradually.

This partial inauguration is expected to have an immediate impact on travel within the city. The stations along this stretch connect vital locations like Santacruz, Marol, and Ghatkopar. This underground line is expected to significantly reduce road traffic congestion, particularly in the western suburbs.

The Aqua Line was originally planned for completion in 2021 but faced delays due to environmental concerns over the Aarey car depot and slow construction progress.

This project is part of the city’s ongoing rapid expansion of its metro network, with the Aqua Line being one of 14 planned lines designed to ease congestion and improve connectivity across Mumbai.
