Thu Sep 26 10:54:18 UTC 2024: ## Alabama Woman Accuses Suicide Pod Company of Exploitation Following Arrests in Switzerland
**Geneva, Switzerland** – The arrest of four individuals in Switzerland on Tuesday, September 24th, following the first known use of a “suicide pod,” has brought to light serious accusations against the company behind the device. Jessica Campbell, an Alabama woman who was initially scheduled to be the first user of the Sarco capsule, claims that the company, Last Resort, exploited her financially and left her stranded in Switzerland.
Campbell, who suffered from debilitating illnesses, spent $40,000 to travel to Switzerland in May 2024 for an assisted suicide through Last Resort. She alleges that her arrival was met with a “media circus” and she was subjected to embarrassing interviews. Furthermore, Campbell claims that top executives of Last Resort pressured her into paying for their groceries and restaurant bills, with one telling her, “You’re going to die anyway, so you don’t need your money anymore.”
When Campbell ultimately decided against using the Sarco pod, she says she was abandoned without any financial support. “I sacrificed everything, used up all my resources and cut off all ties, believing Sarco would offer me a peaceful end,” she wrote in a letter. Campbell eventually sought out another assisted suicide group in Switzerland and ended her life in July 2024.
Last Resort has denied the allegations, stating that it is “not plausible” that the organization would exploit its customers. However, Campbell’s accusations have sparked a debate surrounding the ethics and practices of assisted suicide companies, particularly in light of the recent arrests in Switzerland.
