**SINGAPORE** – Four men were charged on Wednesday with causing public nuisance and using abusive language against police officers at a murder crime scene in Little India.
The incident occurred on Sunday morning at the cordoned-off area on Sam Leong Road, where police were investigating the alleged murder of a 25-year-old. A video of the incident, uploaded on Facebook, garnered over 423,000 views in three days.
The four men, identified as Md Dino Marciano Abdul Wahab (44), Alex Kumar Gnansekaran (37), Mohamed Eusof Mohamed Yahiya (32), and Mohanan V Balakrishnan (32), allegedly shouted at police officers, using phrases like “You talked like a gangster” and “We are paying tax.”
The men, who are unrelated to the alleged murder, were told to use an alternative route to pass the cordoned-off area, but three of them reportedly taunted and used abusive language against officers. The fourth man filmed the interaction on his mobile phone.
Despite the men’s behavior, police officers exercised restraint and strived to de-escalate the situation, allowing the men to pass through after much persuasion.
Police said they will not tolerate obstruction of public servants carrying out their duties or abusive behavior towards officers. Those found guilty of using abusive language against a public servant can face up to a year in jail, a fine of up to S$5,000 (US$3,900), or both. Those found guilty of causing public nuisance face a jail term of up to three months, a fine of up to S$2,000 or both.
The four men will return to court on October 8th. Investigations into the incident are ongoing, and the men may face additional charges.
