Wed Sep 25 10:54:38 UTC 2024: ## Mumbai’s Aqua Line Metro Set to Open in October, Transforming Commute

Mumbai’s much-anticipated underground Metro Line 3, also known as the Aqua Line, is set to open its first phase in October, promising a faster and more efficient commute between Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) and Aarey.

**Key Highlights:**

* **Launch:** Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to inaugurate the 12.44 km stretch in early October.
* **Operational Details:** The line will operate from 6:30 am to 10:30 pm with 10 stations along the route.
* **Frequency & Fares:** Trains will run every 6.5 minutes during peak hours, offering 96 trips daily. Fares will range from Rs 10 to Rs 50.
* **Initial Capacity:** Nine rakes with eight coaches each will service the line, accommodating an estimated 4.5 lakh passengers daily.
* **Future Expansion:** The complete 33.5 km corridor, extending to Cuffe Parade, is anticipated to be fully operational by April or May 2024, with a projected daily ridership of 13 lakh.
* **Connectivity:** The Metro line will eventually connect to both Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 of Mumbai Airport, with infrastructure projects underway to ensure seamless access.

The underground design was chosen to avoid disruption to surface activities, particularly near the airport, in Mumbai’s densely populated urban landscape. The Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited is collaborating with BEST, the transport department, and other agencies to enhance last-mile connectivity.

With its launch, the Aqua Line is expected to significantly ease commutes in Mumbai, offering a faster and more reliable alternative to road travel.
