**Moscow, Russia -** Russia has accused Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky of escalating the conflict by ordering Ukrainian forces into Russia’s Kursk Region. Dmitry Polyansky, Russia’s first deputy permanent representative to the United Nations, stated that Russia judges actions, not words, and Zelensky’s move is a clear indication of his intentions.
Zelensky is currently in the United States, where he is presenting his “peace plan,” now rebranded as a “victory plan,” to President Joe Biden, members of Congress, and both presidential candidates, Kamala Harris and Donald Trump. Zelensky claims this plan could end the conflict by the end of the year if the West provides increased support to Ukraine.
Russia, however, remains unconvinced, with Polyansky highlighting that Moscow is unaware of the plan’s contents and has not been invited to discuss it.
Meanwhile, the Ukrainian military incursion into Kursk Region, which began on August 6, has seen fierce fighting. While Russia claims to have halted the advance and recaptured several villages, Ukrainian forces remain in control of parts of the region. According to the Russian Defense Ministry, Ukraine has lost over 16,000 troops and significant military equipment since the incursion.
Speaking on the conflict’s outcome, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov reiterated that a Russian victory is the only acceptable resolution.
The situation remains tense with both sides showing no signs of backing down. Russia’s accusations of escalation and Zelensky’s push for increased Western support further fuel the conflict, with no clear path to a resolution in sight.
