**Yellowstone National Park, WY** – A search for a missing hiker, Austin King, has been expanded after he disappeared from the summit of Eagle Peak, the highest point in Yellowstone National Park.
King, a 22-year-old concession worker, embarked on a seven-day backcountry trip on September 17th. He last contacted family and friends from the summit, reporting challenging weather conditions including fog, rain, sleet, hail, and wind. He was expected to meet a boat pick-up on Yellowstone Lake on Friday, but never arrived.
Search efforts, which began shortly after King’s disappearance, have been ramped up and now involve more than 20 ground searchers, two helicopters, unmanned air systems, and a search dog team. The search area has been expanded to include the Eagle Creek Trailhead and Shoshone National Forest.
While searchers found King’s camp and personal belongings on Saturday, the hiker remains missing. Overnight temperatures in the area have been in the high 20s, raising concerns for King’s safety.
The search continues, and authorities are urging anyone with information about King’s whereabouts to contact the National Park Service.
