Mon Sep 23 18:02:02 UTC 2024: ## Michigan Football Sticks with Orji Despite Limited Passing Performance
**ANN ARBOR, Mich.** – Michigan Wolverines head coach Sherrone Moore has confirmed that Alex Orji will remain the starting quarterback despite a limited passing performance in their Week 4 victory over USC. Orji, who primarily served as a running quarterback in previous games, attempted just 12 passes for 32 yards against the Trojans.
While the offense relied heavily on the run game, Moore emphasized the importance of Orji’s performance in taking care of the football and his willingness to run the ball effectively.
“Alex will be the starter again, and we’ll definitely complement him and the offense,” Moore said. “He did a good job, took care of the football, and was a great team player.”
Moore acknowledged the need to gradually increase Orji’s passing responsibilities as the season progresses, with the goal of achieving a more balanced offense. He pointed to past seasons where Michigan has relied heavily on the run game in certain situations.
“We want to be balanced, and we’ve had years where we’ve had to win like that,” Moore said. “We’re not afraid to win like that, as long as we win.”
While the passing game currently lacks explosiveness, Moore expressed confidence in Orji’s development and the ability of the Wolverines to improve their passing attack. He cited the example of Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe, whose passing game improved over time after his initial start.
“I think the continual confidence of being able to start the second game – I think it’s huge,” Moore said. “He’s already a confident kid, but I think as you continue progressing, you see that you can do it, you make those throws, you make those down-the-field throws, and do those things in practice.”
Despite the initial challenges, Michigan remains optimistic about Orji’s potential as the starting quarterback and expects his passing game to improve with more experience and practice.
