**New York:** Ireland’s Tánaiste (Deputy Prime Minister) Simon Harris has condemned the Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon, accusing Israel of “blatant disregard for international law” and a “lack of consideration for civilian protections.”
Speaking at the United Nations General Assembly, Mr. Harris expressed deep concern over reports that at least 21 children have been killed in the conflict. He stated that “a child’s cry is the same in any language” and emphasized the urgent need for de-escalation in the region.
Mr. Harris also highlighted the lack of a “targeted response to terrorism,” a sentiment shared by the UN envoy who pleaded for calm in a region on the brink of “catastrophe.”
The situation remains volatile, with Hezbollah launching a barrage of rockets at Israel, escalating fears of a full-scale war. Mr. Harris reassured the public that he is in daily contact with Irish peacekeeping troops in the region, confirming their safety.
