Mon Sep 23 21:50:28 UTC 2024: ## VMware Fusion 13.6 Brings New Command-Line Tool, macOS Sonoma Support, and Some Controversial Changes
VMware has released Fusion 13.6, its latest virtualization software for macOS, introducing a powerful new command-line tool, “vmcli,” for managing virtual machines. With vmcli, users can create, modify, and manage virtual machines directly from their Linux, macOS, or Windows command line.
The update also adds support for macOS 15 Sequoia and Windows 11 23H2 as guest operating systems. Support for Ubuntu 24.04, Fedora 40, and Windows Server 2024 running on Intel-based Macs has also been added.
However, Fusion 13.6 also comes with some notable changes. Legacy VMTools ISOs are no longer included by default and Bluetooth hub passthrough, Unity mode, and the Fusion Application Menu have been removed.
While the update resolves a virtual camera screen misalignment issue on Apple Silicon, there are known issues with VoiceOver on macOS 14 Sonoma and later, and multi-monitor support may not function correctly in certain scenarios.
Despite the new features and changes, some users have reported difficulties with the update process. One user detailed an issue with customer support following the acquisition of VMware by Broadcom, alleging difficulty in downloading the update despite being a registered user.
VMware Fusion and Workstation remain popular choices for users wanting to run virtual machines on their Windows, Linux, and Mac computers. These products enable quick and easy local virtual environment setup.
