**SEATTLE** – A tense standoff continues between Boeing and its 33,000 striking workers, with the union rejecting the company’s latest “best and final” offer. Despite a 30% raise over four years, up from 25% in the previous proposal, the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) deemed it insufficient.
The union criticized Boeing’s decision to publicly announce the offer without prior negotiation, calling it a tactic to “drive a wedge” between members. Their original demand sought a 40% increase over three years.
Boeing, however, insists their offer is “more generous” and addresses concerns raised by both the union and employees. They had hoped to end the 10-day work stoppage that has halted production of 737s, 777s, and 767s, significantly impacting the company’s revenue.
The IAM, however, claims the deadline imposed by Boeing, Friday midnight, leaves insufficient time for members to discuss the offer and organize a vote. They will now survey workers on the proposed deal.
The strike adds further pressure on Boeing, already under intense scrutiny from regulators over safety concerns. This ongoing dispute highlights the growing tension between major corporations and their employees as the cost of living continues to rise.
