Mon Sep 23 21:46:34 UTC 2024: ## Popular ABC Presenter Tony Armstrong Bids Farewell to ‘News Breakfast’

**Sydney, Australia -** After three years as a beloved fixture on the morning news program, Tony Armstrong has announced he will be leaving ABC News Breakfast in October.

Armstrong, a proud Gamilaroi man and former AFL player, first charmed Australian audiences as a fill-in sports presenter in 2020 before taking on the role full-time the following year. He quickly became a fan favorite for his infectious enthusiasm and warm personality.

In a statement, Armstrong expressed his gratitude to the ABC team and viewers. “I just want to thank absolutely everyone — my colleagues, everyone behind the camera, all the producers, and all the people who watch,” he said. “I’ve been so lucky to be surrounded by an incredible team and it’s those friendships that I’m going to cherish the most.”

Armstrong’s final day on the show will be Friday, October 4th. He will, however, continue his work with the ABC, hosting a new show slated to launch in 2025.

Fellow presenters Michael Rowland and Bridget Brennan both expressed their sadness at Armstrong’s departure. “I am so sorry three years of talking sport and swapping gags with Tony is about to end,” said Rowland. “He is an engaging colleague and a good friend.” Brennan echoed these sentiments, adding, “Tony is a wonderful friend and everyone at News Breakfast is going to miss his infectious and caring nature.”

Armstrong’s departure comes after a period of significant success. He won the Graham Kennedy Award for Most Popular New Talent at the 2022 Logie Awards and the Bert Newton Award for Most Popular Presenter in 2023. He was also shortlisted for the Gold Logie earlier this year.

“Tony Armstrong is a once-in-a-generation talent and it has been fantastic watching him soar in his role at News Breakfast,” said Justin Stevens, ABC Director of News. “I can’t wait to see what he does into the future and see his career continue to go from strength to strength.”

While Armstrong’s departure from ‘News Breakfast’ marks the end of an era, viewers can look forward to seeing him continue to shine on the ABC in new and exciting ways.
