Mon Sep 23 22:08:06 UTC 2024: ## Chinese Rocket Explodes in Spectacular Landing Failure, Captured on Video

A Chinese rocket launch ended in a dramatic explosion during its landing phase, captured on video that’s quickly gone viral. The Nebula-1, developed by Deep Blue Aerospace, was undergoing a high-altitude vertical flight test on Sunday in Inner Mongolia. The rocket successfully launched, reached an altitude of three miles, and then began its descent.

However, as the rocket neared the ground, it suddenly dropped and exploded in a fiery fireball, captured in stunning detail by a drone camera. The incident, while a setback, showcases the company’s transparency and commitment to learning from failures.

Deep Blue Aerospace stated that the test successfully achieved ten out of eleven objectives, including a landing accuracy of about 1.6 feet. The company has already announced plans for another vertical flight test in November.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation. Initial theories suggest a miscalculation of altitude or improper engine throttling during the final descent.

Despite the setback, the Nebula-1, a two-stage, kerosene-fueled rocket, is designed to carry around 4,400 pounds to low-Earth orbit, with plans to increase its payload to over 17,000 pounds. While less powerful than SpaceX’s Falcon 9, the Nebula-1 offers a smaller and more affordable alternative in the reusable rocket market.

This dramatic failure will likely delay a full-blown orbital flight test until at least 2025. However, Deep Blue Aerospace can take solace in the wealth of data collected from the incident, and perhaps even an epic video that will surely make its way into future rocket launch documentaries.
