Mon Sep 23 22:33:00 UTC 2024: ## “The Penguin” Soars: HBO Spin-Off Surpasses “Succession” and “The White Lotus” Premiere Ratings

**Los Angeles, CA** – HBO’s new series “The Penguin” has taken flight, attracting a massive audience in its debut weekend. The “Batman” spinoff garnered 5.3 million viewers across all platforms in the U.S., surpassing the premiere viewership of both “Succession” Season 4 (4.9 million) and “The White Lotus” Season 2 (4.1 million) over similar timeframes.

This impressive figure makes “The Penguin” the most-watched new series launch on Max globally since “The Last of Us” in January 2023. The show follows the rise of Oswald “Oz” Cobblepot, the iconic villain from Matt Reeves’ 2022 film “The Batman,” played by the returning Colin Farrell.

“The Penguin” also aligns with the premiere viewership of “True Detective: Night Country,” which drew 5.7 million viewers and ultimately averaged 13.9 million viewers per season. While “Succession” and “The White Lotus” achieved higher average season viewership, reaching 9.6 million and 15.5 million viewers respectively, “The Penguin” has clearly made a strong first impression.

The cast features Cristin Milioti, Rhenzy Feliz, Michael Kelly, Shohreh Aghdashloo, and Deirdre O’Connell, with Clancy Brown and Michael Zegen in recurring roles. The series is executive produced by Reeves, Dylan Clark, Farrell, and Lauren LeFranc, who also writes and serves as showrunner.

“The Penguin” continues to air on Sunday evenings on HBO and is available for streaming on Max.
