**Moscow, September 23 (Xinhua)** – Telegram, the encrypted messaging service, will disclose user data upon reasonable requests from authorities, co-founder Pavel Durov announced on his Telegram channel Monday.
Durov stated that IP addresses and phone numbers of users violating Telegram’s rules can be provided to relevant authorities in response to valid legal requests. This change comes after an update to the platform’s terms of service and privacy policy, now standardized globally.
The move aims to deter criminal activity, specifically the abuse of Telegram’s search function for selling illegal goods. Durov reported that the platform has recently removed problematic content from its search results.
Durov himself is currently facing legal troubles in France. He was detained last month and released on bail after charges of failing to address cyberbullying, pedophilic content, and glorification of terrorism on Telegram. He remains under judicial supervision and is barred from leaving France.
