Tue Sep 24 20:07:18 UTC 2024: ## Supreme Court Collegium Recommends Two for Patna High Court Judgeship

**New Delhi:** The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the appointment of two judicial officers, Shashi Bhushan Prasad Singh and Ashok Kumar Pandey, as judges of the Patna High Court.

Singh, who joined the Judicial Service in 1996, currently serves as the Registrar (Vigilance) at the Patna High Court. Pandey, a Judicial Service member since 1995, is the Director of the Bihar Judicial Academy in Patna.

The recommendation, approved by the Chief Minister and Governor of Bihar, followed a consultation process involving the Chief Justice of the Patna High Court and his senior colleagues. Supreme Court judges familiar with the functioning of the Patna High Court were also consulted to assess the candidates’ fitness.

The Collegium, after scrutinizing relevant materials and considering the inputs of the Department of Justice, concluded that both candidates enjoy a good personal and professional image with no adverse information regarding their integrity. The Judgement Assessment Committee report and the assessment by the Government of India further validated their suitability for the appointment.

The Collegium also acknowledged the Patna High Court Collegium’s decision not to recommend certain senior judicial officers for elevation, accepting their provided reasons.

This recommendation, based on a rigorous assessment process, is a significant step towards strengthening the judiciary in Bihar.
