Mon Sep 23 17:41:57 UTC 2024: ## VTA Employee Arrested for Fatal Shooting of Coworker in South San Jose

**San Jose, CA** – A Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) employee has been arrested for the fatal shooting of another VTA employee in a South San Jose bus yard parking lot on Friday night.

Duc Minh Bui, 33, was taken into custody on Sunday near his home. Authorities believe Bui is solely responsible for the death of Regulus Teotico, a VTA bus driver of 10 years.

The shooting comes just over three years after another VTA employee tragically killed nine coworkers and himself at a VTA rail yard.

Teotico, known to his colleagues as Regis, was a father of two teenagers. VTA General Manager Carolyn Gonot expressed condolences to his family and friends, calling him a “kind, hardworking driver” well-liked by his colleagues.

The motive behind the shooting appears to be a gambling debt between Bui and Teotico, both bus drivers who engaged in similar activities outside their employment.

Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office and San Jose Police Department responded quickly to the scene and arrested Bui. Law enforcement presence at VTA yards and facilities will be increased in the foreseeable future.

Mayor Matt Mahan praised the collaborative efforts of the sheriff’s office, police, and fire department in apprehending Bui.

VTA leadership has provided grief counseling and other resources to employees in the wake of the tragedy.

Supervisor Cindy Chavez acknowledged the emotional toll this incident could have on VTA employees, especially following the 2021 mass shooting.

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
