Tue Sep 24 18:46:56 UTC 2024: ## Uttar Pradesh Welcomes its First Homegrown Airline: Shankh Air
**Lucknow, India** – In a significant development for the state of Uttar Pradesh, a new airline, Shankh Air, has been granted approval by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). This marks a major milestone as Shankh Air becomes the first airline with its headquarters in Uttar Pradesh. The company is owned by Shravan Kumar Vishwakarma, who is also the owner of Shankh Agencies Private Limited, a building material company established in 2022.
Shankh Aviation Private Limited, established just a year ago, has its headquarters in Gomti Nagar, Lucknow. The airline plans to operate flights from the upcoming Jewar Airport in Noida, along with key cities in Uttar Pradesh like Lucknow, Varanasi, Agra, and Gorakhpur. Targeting the budget airline segment, similar to IndiGo, Shankh Air will utilize smaller aircraft to offer affordable air travel options.
Shankh Air is expected to begin operations within a few months. The company aims to connect major cities in Uttar Pradesh, leveraging the state’s burgeoning economic growth fueled by projects like the rapid rail, film city, and expressways. Shankh Air’s initial focus will be on routes connecting Gorakhpur, Lucknow, and Varanasi.
The airline’s arrival presents a new challenge in the competitive Indian aviation market. While the company is confident in its ability to succeed, it remains to be seen how it will fare against established players.
