Despite initial talks in March, Courteney Cox has yet to sign on to reprise her role as Gale Weathers in the upcoming “Scream 7.” While she’s excited about the film’s direction under Kevin Williamson’s helm, Cox confirms she’s still waiting for a satisfactory script that includes her character.
The film has experienced several setbacks, including the departure of director Christopher Landon and the firing of Melissa Barrera after her comments about the Israel-Hamas conflict. The plot has been rewritten, and Neve Campbell has signed on to return as Sidney Prescott.
While Cox is “excited” for the project, her participation hinges on the script. She also expressed her hope that Dewey (played by David Arquette) will be incorporated in some way, despite his death in “Scream” (2022). “They have to figure it out,” Cox stated regarding Dewey’s potential return.
“Scream 7” is expected to begin filming in December or January.
