Mon Sep 23 20:38:56 UTC 2024: ## Second Apparent Assassination Attempt on Former President Trump Foiled

**West Palm Beach, FL** – A second alleged assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump was thwarted on September 15th, authorities revealed. Ryan Wesley Routh, a former felon, was arrested after being seen pointing a rifle at Trump’s golf club in West Palm Beach, Florida.

According to an FBI affidavit, Routh, who had been camping outside the club for nearly 12 hours, was aiming the rifle through the fence before fleeing the scene. He was apprehended later that day in Martin County, Florida.

Routh faces charges of possession of a firearm while a former felon and possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number.

**Motivations Revealed in a Note**

The Justice Department, in a detention memo, revealed details about Routh’s alleged motivations. A note, received by an unidentified citizen months before the incident, expressed a desire to kill Trump.

“This was an assassination attempt on Donald Trump but I failed you. I tried my best and gave it all the gumption I could muster. It is up to you now to finish the job; and I will offer $150,000 to whomever can complete the job,” the note read, according to prosecutors.

The note also detailed Routh’s grievances against the former president, stating that “Trump is unfit to be anything, much less a US president.”

**Security Scrutiny intensifies**

Following this second apparent assassination attempt, the Secret Service is facing increased scrutiny for its handling of security around former President Trump.

The House of Representatives unanimously passed bipartisan legislation on Friday to increase security for presidential and vice presidential candidates. The “Enhanced Presidential Security Act,” if signed into law, would grant presidential candidates the same level of protection as the sitting president.

The House also expanded the scope of its task force investigating the July 13th assassination attempt on Trump in Pennsylvania, which resulted in one death and several injuries. The Secret Service director, Kimberly Cheatle, resigned amid criticism following that incident.

Routh is currently being held without bond pending further legal proceedings. This incident has heightened concerns about security threats against former presidents and political figures, prompting calls for increased security measures.
