Mon Sep 23 20:16:47 UTC 2024: ## Russia and Iran Sign Comprehensive Partnership Deal Amidst Tensions with the West

**Kazan, Russia** – Russia and Iran have finalized a comprehensive partnership agreement, signifying a deepening of their strategic ties despite ongoing tensions with the West. The deal, modeled after the 2021 China-Iran agreement, outlines two decades of cooperation in various fields, including politics, defense, regional and international affairs.

The agreement, which is expected to be signed by Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian during his visit to Russia next month, comes amidst accusations by Washington and Kyiv that Iran has supplied Russia with ballistic missiles and drones used in the Ukraine conflict. While Tehran has denied these allegations, it showcased its latest locally designed and manufactured missiles and drones in a recent military parade.

The partnership deal, according to experts, could pose a challenge to Iranian efforts to repair relations with the West and revive the 2015 nuclear agreement. This agreement, which limited Iran’s nuclear program in exchange for sanctions relief, has been severely impacted by the ongoing US sanctions against Iran.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has expressed concern over Iran’s potential involvement in the Ukraine conflict, highlighting the potential use of Iranian-supplied missiles in the war. The US has imposed sanctions on individuals and entities in both Russia and Iran in response to alleged weapons shipments.

Despite the controversy surrounding the partnership agreement, both Russia and Iran have emphasized their commitment to strengthening their strategic ties. The deal is expected to be finalized at the upcoming BRICS summit, which begins on October 22nd in Kazan, Russia.
