**Cincinnati, OH** – The Cincinnati Reds have made a major change, firing manager David Bell after six seasons at the helm. In his place, Freddie Benavides will take over as interim manager for the remainder of the 2024 season.
Bell’s tenure saw the Reds reach the playoffs once, in the shortened 2020 season, but ultimately fell short of their goals. While the team showed improvement in 2023, their 2024 performance fell short, leaving them 13.5 games behind the division-leading Milwaukee Brewers.
Benavides, a familiar face in the Reds’ organization, has served as both first base and bench coach since 2016. He also has a history as an infielder in the Major Leagues, playing for the Reds, Rockies, and Expos from 1991-1994.
The Reds will look to finish the season strong under Benavides’ leadership, starting with a two-game series against the Cleveland Guardians Tuesday and Wednesday. They will then travel to Chicago for a three-game series against the Cubs this weekend.
