**Sydney, Australia** – The Pharmaceutical Society of Australia (PSA) has officially launched the PSA Foundation, a new charity dedicated to supporting excellence in pharmacy practice. The Foundation, which is registered with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission, will provide funding for pharmacists’ professional development, research, education, and practice.
The launch coincides with World Pharmacists Day, which celebrates the critical role of pharmacists in improving global healthcare access and outcomes. The PSA Foundation aligns with this year’s theme, “Pharmacists: Meeting Global Health Needs.”
The Foundation’s vision is to optimize pharmacists’ roles within the Australian healthcare system through excellence in practice and research. Its mission is to foster and promote excellence in pharmacy practice by providing opportunities for research, study, and postgraduate education across all areas of pharmacy.
“This generous contribution from the Pharmaceutical Society of Queensland and Queensland Pharmacy Research Trust marks an exciting beginning for the PSA Foundation,” said Associate Professor Fei Sim FPS, Chair of the PSA Foundation Board. “We are committed to supporting more pharmacists in expanding their practice and ultimately delivering better health outcomes for all Australians.”
The PSA Foundation is initially supported by a donation from the Pharmaceutical Society of Queensland and the Queensland Pharmacy Research Trust. This funding will be used to launch several initiatives, including grants for Queensland pharmacists to undertake Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training.
“This MHFA training will empower pharmacists to play an even greater role in supporting mental health across Queensland,” said Associate Professor Sim. “It is an opportunity to upskill our profession to support our friends and colleagues as our practice is getting more complex and faces growing pressures.”
The PSA Foundation is accepting applications for MHFA training grants from Queensland pharmacists. More information about the Foundation and its initiatives, including application details for MHFA grants, can be found on the PSA Foundation website: http://www.psa.org.au/psa-foundation.
