Mon Sep 23 22:38:15 UTC 2024: ## Providence’s English Sparks Rivalry With Georgetown Before Season Even Starts

The 2024-2025 college basketball season officially kicked off Monday, and Providence head coach Kim English wasted no time igniting the rivalry with Georgetown. Less than 12 hours into the first day of practice, English began a social media spat with Hoyas fans.

The online battle started with English posting a photo of his team’s first practice, referencing Allen Iverson’s famous quote, “We talkin’ bout practice, man.” However, Hoyas fans were quick to point out that Iverson was a Georgetown alum, prompting English to claim he wasn’t aware of the connection until 2011.

This opened the door for Georgetown fans to resurrect a 2018 tweet from English expressing his desire to play for the Hoyas. English, who replaced Ed Cooley as Providence’s head coach after Cooley left for Georgetown, responded by reminding the Hoyas fans about the lack of attendance at their games, especially during their losing season last year.

With Providence hosting Georgetown on January 25th and the Friars traveling to D.C. on February 19th, this early-season trolling has only intensified the rivalry between the two teams. Both programs are expected to be improved this year, making the upcoming matchups even more anticipated.
