Dutch artist and former skater Piet Parra has put his unique spin on the classic Vans Half Cab sneaker, creating a bold and eye-catching design that pays homage to the iconic skate shoe while pushing the boundaries of what it can be.
Parra’s Half Cab collaboration features warped suede panels, creating a wavy aesthetic reminiscent of his abstract canvases. From a distance, the shoe appears entirely new, with its soft suede panels and warm color palette. However, upon closer inspection, the familiar Half Cab silhouette becomes evident.
“I wanted to make sure I didn’t mess it up,” Parra explained, acknowledging the legacy of the Half Cab. “This is a shoe that’s long been near and dear to my heart.”
The artist meticulously adjusted the panels to create a unique design that retains the essence of the original. The shoe is still meant to be skated, as evidenced by action shots of Vans team member Curren Caples shredding in the Parra Half Cab.
While Parra’s artistic touch and limited-edition release might lead some to believe he is against the sneaker reselling market, he embraces the practice. “I really love the flipping, collecting, and reselling of shoes,” he stated. “It allows collectors to decide what becomes a grail, not the manufacturers.”
Parra’s Vans OTW Half Cab will be available on the OTW website starting September 24th for $135. Whether you plan to rock them or flip them, one thing is certain: these are a unique and eye-catching addition to the Vans legacy.
