A clash of rock titans has unfolded after Peter Frampton accused Megadeth of causing structural damage to a stage, leading to the cancellation of both their shows at Virginia Credit Union Live! in Richmond, Virginia.
Frampton, while performing in Philadelphia, publicly stated that Megadeth’s soundcheck resulted in stage damage, forcing his own show to be cancelled. Megadeth, however, vehemently denies these claims.
A statement from Megadeth’s publicists, Schneider Rondan Organization, clarifies that the band did not even get a chance to soundcheck. They state that their rigger discovered damage to the venue’s steel grid system, deeming it unsafe to proceed with the show. They emphasize that the cancellation was solely based on safety concerns, citing the risk of serious injury or death.
Dave Mustaine, Megadeth’s frontman, weighed in with a scathing comment, calling Frampton’s statements “misinformed” and expressing disappointment at the accusations. He labeled Frampton’s remarks as “talking out his ass.”
The controversy highlights the different perspectives surrounding the cancellation and raises questions about the communication between the bands, promoters, and the venue. While the incident has caused a stir in the rock world, it is unlikely to escalate further with both bands currently on tour.
