**Yola, Adamawa State –** The Pharmacy Council of Nigeria (PCN) has taken a firm stance against illegal drug operations in Adamawa State, sealing off 581 pharmaceutical premises across eight local government areas. The action, which took place on Friday, was aimed at ensuring compliance with industry standards and safeguarding public health.
According to the PCN Director of Enforcement, Stephen Esumobi, the sealed premises included 35 pharmacies, 325 patent medicine shops, and 221 illegal medicine shops. These outlets were found to be operating below the stipulated standards set by the council.
Esumobi highlighted the council’s repeated attempts to engage with operators who were not adhering to directives. Despite multiple meetings and warnings, many continued to operate outside the guidelines, leading to the enforcement action.
The PCN Director expressed concern about the illicit sale of substances of abuse by illegal medicine dealers, contributing to social and security challenges in the state. He emphasized that any pharmacy operating without a superintendent pharmacist will face legal consequences.
Furthermore, the PCN revealed that many premises were operating in locations unsuitable for pharmaceutical businesses. Such operators were advised to relocate or face sanctions.
The Pharmacy Council of Nigeria remains committed to ensuring the safe and ethical distribution of medicines in Adamawa State. This action serves as a strong reminder of the council’s dedication to upholding industry standards and protecting public health.
