HELENA, Mont. – A technical error initially prevented Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris’ name from appearing on Montana’s online absentee voting system for overseas and military voters, the Secretary of State’s Office confirmed on Monday.
The issue was discovered shortly after the system went live on Friday morning, when one voter reported the omission. The system was immediately taken offline, and the vendor corrected the error. Service was restored by Friday afternoon, according to Richie Melby, spokesperson for Secretary of State Christi Jacobsen. The first voter who had cast their ballot was notified of the technical issue.
The error was limited to the online voting system and did not affect printed ballots. Harris’ name is present on all printed ballots being sent out in Montana.
