Mon Sep 23 18:10:56 UTC 2024: ## Arch Manning Shines in Debut, Ewers’ Status Uncertain for Texas’ SEC Opener

**Austin, TX** – Texas Longhorns backup quarterback Arch Manning had a promising debut, throwing for 258 yards and two touchdowns in a 51-3 victory over UL Monroe on Saturday. However, the status of starting quarterback Quinn Ewers remains uncertain as he recovers from an oblique strain.

Ewers, who is considered questionable for the Longhorns’ SEC opener against Mississippi State on September 16th, needs to prove his readiness. “He’s got to do enough to show me he can play,” said Head Coach Steve Sarkisian, adding that Ewers’ progress will be evaluated throughout the week.

Manning, who threw for 258 yards and two touchdowns in his first start, had a “rough start” but ultimately “rebounded and did some nice things” for the Longhorns, according to Sarkisian. The coach also took some responsibility for a game plan that relied heavily on deep passes, which Manning, a known deep-ball thrower, struggled with initially.

Despite a few missed opportunities, Sarkisian expressed confidence in Manning’s potential. “I think we do have the depth on this roster to withstand the strain that the SEC could put on your roster over that eight-game season that you play in conference,” said Sarkisian, noting that the team’s high expectations remain even with the transition to the SEC.

The Longhorns, who have outscored their opponents by an impressive 168 points this season, face a daunting schedule ahead, including matchups against No. 21 Oklahoma and No. 2 Georgia.

As the team prepares for its SEC debut, the question of who will lead the offense remains unanswered. Whether Ewers recovers in time or Manning continues to impress, the Longhorns are primed for a challenging and potentially successful season in the SEC.
