**NEW YORK** – The escalating conflict between Israel and Lebanon’s Hezbollah is on the verge of becoming a full-blown war, according to Josep Borrell, the European Union’s foreign policy chief.
Speaking to reporters at the United Nations General Assembly in New York, Borrell expressed deep concern over the situation, stating, “If this is not a war situation, I don’t know what you would call it.” He pointed to the increasing number of civilian casualties and the intensity of military strikes as evidence of the conflict’s severity.
Borrell also noted that Europe’s worst fears of a wider conflict are becoming a reality, with the situation becoming increasingly dangerous. “Civilians are paying a high price,” he said, emphasizing the need for all diplomatic efforts to prevent a full-blown war.
