Wed Sep 25 13:53:52 UTC 2024: ## Mumbai’s First Underground Metro To Be Inaugurated By PM Modi In October

**Mumbai, India:** Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate Mumbai’s first underground metro line during his visit to the city in the first week of October. This marks the opening of the first phase of the Aqua Line, a 12.5 kilometer stretch between Aarey Colony and Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC).

The Aqua Line is part of the larger 33.5 kilometer Colaba-Seepz-Aarey Metro Line 3, which is expected to be fully operational by next year. The line will provide easy access to both international and domestic airports, connecting the city’s central, southern, and western regions.

The inaugural phase, comprising the Aarey Colony to BKC route, will be inaugurated alongside other infrastructure projects including the Thane Creek Bridge and the final phase of the Samruddhi Expressway.

The underground line, currently 93% complete, is expected to reduce traffic congestion in Mumbai’s busy western suburbs. Passengers will initially use paper tickets with QR codes, with the gradual introduction of NCMC cards in the future.

The Mumbai Metro Rail Cooperation (MMRC) has received two necessary approvals and a nod for rolling stock (Metro train) but is still awaiting approval for the rail line itself.
