Wed Sep 25 16:53:46 UTC 2024: ## Mumbai Batters Under Heavy Rainfall, Red Alert Issued
**Mumbai, September 25, 2024:** Mumbai is currently experiencing heavy rainfall, leading to widespread waterlogging and disruptions to traffic and transportation. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for the city, predicting “extremely heavy rainfall and thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds” until 8:30 am on Thursday.
The city has been experiencing intense rainfall since Wednesday afternoon, with Mulund and surrounding areas receiving the heaviest downpour. This has caused waterlogging in low-lying areas, impacting road traffic and local train services.
Local train services on the slow line between Vidhyavihar and Mulund have been severely affected by the waterlogging. Passengers have been stranded as trains have been forced to stop. The fast line and harbour line remain operational, with officials redirecting slow line trains to the fast line.
The heavy rainfall has also disrupted flights at Mumbai Airport, with two flights diverted and seven flights forced to perform go-arounds before being granted landing clearance.
The BMC has issued instructions to all key officials and engineers to monitor the situation and remain in control rooms.
The situation remains precarious, with authorities urging citizens to take necessary precautions and stay informed about the latest updates.
