**Mumbai, India -** The Indian city of Mumbai is grappling with torrential rainfall that has caused widespread waterlogging and disruptions, leading to a red alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The IMD has issued a red alert for heavy rain until 8:30 am tomorrow, September 26th, 2024. In response, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has announced that all schools and colleges in the city will remain closed tomorrow, urging citizens to stay indoors unless absolutely necessary.
The city experienced alarming rainfall levels between 5:30 pm and 8:30 pm, with some areas recording over 100 mm of rain. Mankhurd was the worst hit with 190 mm of rain, followed by Ghatkopar with 182 mm and Vikhroli with 188 mm.
The heavy rain has created significant challenges for commuters, particularly at Ghatkopar railway station where large crowds are struggling to board trains.
Meanwhile, the downpour has severely impacted air travel, with several flights being diverted and delays reported at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport. An Indigo flight was forced to abort its landing due to wind shear and diverted to Ahmedabad. SpiceJet and Vistara have announced potential delays and disruptions to flights due to the adverse weather conditions.
