**Mumbai, India:** The first phase of the Mumbai Metro 3 line, also known as the Aqua Line, is set to be inaugurated in October 2024, according to Ashwini Bhide, Managing Director of the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC). The 12.5 km stretch will connect Aarey Colony to Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) and is part of a larger 33.5 km Colaba-Seepz-Aarey Metro Line 3 route.
Bhide confirmed that the line is nearing completion, with 93% of the corridor work already finished. The remaining work is subject to safety clearance and the approval of the rail line application. The rolling stock, or metro trains, have already been approved. The full Aarey to Colaba line is expected to be operational by March or May 2025.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to officially inaugurate the Aarey-BKC route in the first week of October, coinciding with the opening of other infrastructure projects in the state. This launch marks a significant milestone in Mumbai’s public transportation infrastructure development, promising faster and more efficient travel for the city’s residents.
