**Nakhon Si Thammarat, Thailand** – Fort Wachirawut Hospital, a military-run facility in southern Thailand, is undergoing a significant transformation to become a leading center of excellence in healthcare. The hospital’s five-year strategy, launched last year, aims to elevate its services to a tertiary-care level, providing a wider range of complex medical treatments and bolstering its role in supporting military missions.
“Our goal is to strengthen our ability to protect the people and the nation by offering access to quality healthcare for all,” said Major General Chokchai Kwanpichit, Director of Fort Wachirawut Hospital. “We want to be a center of excellence, enhancing the quality of life for everyone.”
The hospital currently serves approximately 1,000 people daily, including outpatients. It is moving towards becoming a specialist hospital with complete medical facilities, offering a variety of services including general internal medicine, surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, and orthopedic surgery.
To ensure the highest standards of care, Fort Wachirawut Hospital is undergoing rigorous assessments, including preparation for the World Health Organization’s International Emergency Medical Team Type 2 verification program. This program evaluates the hospital’s capabilities in emergency care and specific surgical procedures, ensuring Thailand’s readiness for disaster response.
The hospital has already achieved notable accreditations, including the Hospital Accreditation Information Technology certification, becoming the first military hospital in the Royal Thai Army to receive this recognition. It is also the first military hospital in the Asia-Pacific region to receive the American Accreditation Commission International certification, demonstrating its commitment to international standards of excellence.
In line with its strategic vision, Fort Wachirawut Hospital is actively embracing digital technology. The hospital developed the FWH application, launched two months ago, which connects medical staff with patients and provides them with important hospital updates and healthcare information.
The hospital is also expanding its services by establishing a medical forward command to serve people living near Thailand’s borders. Helicopters are available for air ambulance missions to provide immediate care and transportation during emergencies.
“Fort Wachirawut Hospital is committed to providing accessible, high-quality healthcare services,” said Major General Kwanpichit. “We are constantly striving to improve our services and expand our reach, ensuring that all Thais have access to the care they need.”
