Wed Sep 25 17:55:11 UTC 2024: ## Malayalam Actor Siddique Seeks Supreme Court Intervention in Rape Case
**New Delhi, October 26:** Malayalam actor Siddique has approached the Supreme Court seeking anticipatory bail in a rape case filed against him. This comes after the Kerala High Court dismissed his earlier petition, finding prima facie evidence of his involvement in the crime. The High Court’s decision was based on allegations made by a woman who claimed that Siddique sexually exploited her in 2016 after promising her opportunities in the film industry.
The woman’s allegations surfaced following the publication of the Justice Hema Committee report, which investigated exploitation faced by women in the Malayalam film industry. The High Court acknowledged the delay in registering the FIR, but found it understandable due to the potential psychological and emotional trauma experienced by victims of sexual abuse.
Siddique’s legal team argued that the delay in reporting the incident should invalidate the case. However, the High Court ruled that this argument was not sufficient to dismiss the complaint, especially in the context of a bail application. The Court also upheld that the actions alleged against Siddique fall under the expanded definition of rape.
The Supreme Court is now expected to hear the case and decide whether to grant Siddique anticipatory bail. The State of Kerala and the victim have filed caveats, ensuring they are notified of any proceedings.
