**Paris, France** – French President Emmanuel Macron has called for a new international order that takes into account the changing global landscape, including climate change and technological advancements. Speaking at the Sant’Egidio International Meeting for Peace in Paris, Macron argued that the current world order, established after World War II, is “incomplete and unjust.”
Macron specifically highlighted the need for a new framework for Europe, proposing a “rethinking of relations with Russia.” He acknowledged the current security tensions and the need for a new “European political community” that goes beyond the European Union and NATO.
“We need to think about the world in a new form,” Macron stated. “It is necessary to take into account the geographical reality of Europe, which is not limited to either the EU or, most definitely, NATO. We need to think about a new form of organization of Europe and rethink relations with Russia in the future, as well as peace on this continent.”
This proposal comes amidst ongoing tensions between France and Russia. Macron’s earlier comments about avoiding humiliation of Russia sparked criticism, while France has also provided military aid to Ukraine. However, he maintains that a diplomatic solution to the conflict in Ukraine is ultimately necessary.
Russia’s Presidential Spokesman Dmitry Peskov responded to Macron’s speech, stating that the changing security architecture of Europe necessitates a new approach and that the Kremlin is particularly interested in ensuring its security interests in the new world order.
The Sant’Egidio International Meeting for Peace, hosted in Paris from September 22-24, aims to promote peace and solidarity between different religions and cultures. The event seeks to foster dialogue and collaboration, emphasizing the need for bridge-building over division.
