DC Studios’ highly anticipated “Lanterns” series has finally landed its leading man. Veteran actor Kyle Chandler (“Bloodline”, “Catch 22”, “Friday Night Lights”) is reportedly in talks to play Hal Jordan, the seasoned Green Lantern who will mentor rookie John Stewart.
The series will focus on the Earth-based mystery that unfolds when John Stewart and Hal Jordan, intergalactic cops, investigate a murder in the American heartland. Casting is currently underway for a younger actor to play John Stewart.
“Lanterns” is being described as a “terrestrial based TV show” with a “True Detective” vibe, following the two Green Lanterns as they uncover a terrifying mystery that ties into the larger DC Universe. The show’s pilot script is being written by Emmy Award-winning “Lost” and “Watchmen” creator Damon Lindelof, alongside “Ozark” showrunner Chris Mundy and comic book writer Tom King.
Production is expected to begin in Q1 of 2025 in the United Kingdom, with a potential release date in 2026. Nathan Fillion’s Guy Gardner, who will appear in James Gunn’s upcoming “Superman” reboot, is expected to have a supporting role in the series.
While Chandler’s casting has been met with excitement, it has been confirmed that he will not be part of any cinematic projects related to the “Lanterns” series. This marks a shift from previous plans for the series, which was originally envisioned as a multi-platform project with both a television and film component.
