Mon Sep 23 21:10:03 UTC 2024: ## Knicks to be Without Starting Center Mitchell Robinson for First Few Months of Season

**NEW YORK** – The New York Knicks will be without their starting center, Mitchell Robinson, for the first two to three months of the upcoming season as he continues to recover from offseason ankle surgery. Robinson, who initially suffered a stress injury to his left ankle last December, underwent another surgery in May after reinjuring the ankle during the playoffs.

While the initial recovery timeline was six to eight weeks, the Knicks are taking a cautious approach and will not rush Robinson back, prioritizing his long-term health. This news comes as a blow to the Knicks, who are already facing depth issues at the center position following the departure of Isaiah Hartenstein.

With Robinson sidelined, Precious Achiuwa, Jericho Sims, and rookie Ariel Hukporti will split minutes at the center spot. Coach Tom Thibodeau has also hinted at the possibility of using a small-ball lineup with Julius Randle moving to center, while OG Anunoby and Josh Hart can handle bigger players defensively.

The Knicks are not ruling out pursuing veteran centers through trades if Robinson’s recovery timeline is further delayed or if the team is not satisfied with their current options. Potential trade targets include Clint Capela, Deandre Ayton, Robert Williams III, and Isaiah Stewart.

The Knicks will open their season on October 22nd against the defending champion Boston Celtics. The team’s early season performance will be closely watched as they adjust to life without their starting center.
