**Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala:** Following the release of the Hema Committee report, which exposed widespread sexual harassment and exploitation in the Malayalam film industry, actor Siddique is facing an arrest warrant in connection with a rape case.
The Kerala Police have initiated a search operation for Siddique after a former actress filed a complaint alleging he raped her in 2016 at a state-owned hotel in Thiruvananthapuram. The victim, who initially refrained from reporting the incident, came forward after the Hema Committee report highlighted the rampant abuse faced by women in the industry.
The victim claims Siddique pressured her into providing sexual favors in exchange for a role in a Tamil film. When she refused, he allegedly raped her. Siddique vehemently denies the allegations, stating the victim has been making false claims on social media since 2019. He also refutes the allegation of misbehavior at a movie theater in 2016, claiming the rape accusation was added after the release of the Hema Committee report.
The Kerala High Court rejected Siddique’s bail plea, further fueling the investigation. The victim expressed satisfaction with the court verdict and voiced concerns about the investigation’s transparency, stating that leaks to the media could jeopardize the case.
Following the complaint, Siddique resigned from his position as General Secretary of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA). The report has triggered a wave of accusations against several prominent figures in the industry. The police have registered 11 FIRs against actors, directors, and producers, including Jayasurya, Nivin Pauly, Maniyanpilla Raju, Mukesh Madhavan, Edavela Babu, Ranjith, and VK Prakash.
The Hema Committee report, submitted to the Kerala government in 2019 and released in August 2024, has shaken the Malayalam film industry, shedding light on the systemic issues faced by women. The ongoing investigation and the arrest warrant against Siddique highlight the gravity of the allegations and the need for accountability within the industry.
