Kelsey Grammer, the iconic actor behind the beloved character Frasier Crane, has revealed that he envisions the Frasier reboot lasting for another decade. In a recent interview with The New York Times, Grammer shared his hopes for the show’s future and even hinted at a potential ending.
The actor, who has played the erudite psychiatrist for 40 years, expressed his desire to end the show with a quote from Tennyson’s “Ulysses”: “To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.” Grammer believes this reflects the spirit of Frasier, always seeking knowledge and pushing forward, even in the face of challenges.
He also explained his decision to revive the show 19 years after the original run, stating, “I knew I could. I wanted to do that kind of work again where I could bring great writers in and have great fun.” He fondly recalled the show’s focus on “things that mattered, things of the heart,” like the relationship between Frasier and his brother Niles.
The reboot has already seen the return of several beloved characters, including Frasier’s ex-wife Lilith (Bebe Neuwirth) and his longtime friend Roz (Peri Gilpin). Season 2 features a new love interest for Frasier, played by Emmy winner Patricia Heaton, known for her role in “Everybody Loves Raymond.”
While acknowledging the loss of John Mahoney, who played Frasier’s father, Grammer expressed his commitment to continuing the show and remaining relevant, particularly as a father of seven. He hopes to use his time on the show to nurture his relationships with his children, both the older ones whom he feels he missed opportunities with and the younger ones whom he is committed to being present in their lives.
The Frasier reboot is currently airing its second season on Paramount+ and promises to continue captivating audiences with its witty humor and heartwarming stories for years to come.
