**WICHITA, KS -** A domestic dispute turned violent this morning at Cessna Elementary School, leaving one woman critically injured and the alleged shooter hospitalized in extreme critical condition. The incident occurred shortly after 9:15 AM, as the couple, who had just dropped off their children, became embroiled in an argument outside the school.

According to witnesses, the man pulled out a gun and shot his wife in the chest near their Lyft ride. The woman then fled towards the school for help, pursued by the man. A Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Deputy arrived on the scene and found the man pointing a gun at the woman’s head. The deputy took cover, waiting for a moment when the man was far enough away from his wife before firing two shots, taking him into custody.

The school immediately went into lockdown, with staff ushering all students into classrooms. Authorities assured the public that there was no active shooter inside the school and that the incident was solely related to the domestic dispute.

“This is a domestic violence-related shooting that happened outside the school. There was no school shooting whatsoever,” said Sheriff Jeff Easter.

While the incident occurred near a school, Sheriff Easter emphasized the swift response by law enforcement and the fact that the violence never entered the school building. All preschool classes were cancelled for the day, and parents were given the option to pick up their children.
