Mon Sep 23 22:56:07 UTC 2024: ## Accused in Justin Breau Murder Trial Takes the Stand, Witnesses’ Accounts Remain Conflicting

**Saint John, NB** – The trial for the first-degree murder of Justin Breau, who was killed on August 17, 2022, entered its second week with the accused, Donald Walker, taking the stand and giving his account of events. Walker, 52, and Charles William Shatford, 49, are both facing charges for Breau’s death.

During six days of testimony, the jury heard from 18 witnesses, including Megan Ross, Breau’s girlfriend, who was present at the time of the attack. Ross initially claimed three masked men burst into their apartment and fatally stabbed Breau. However, her testimony became increasingly unreliable as the trial progressed, with her claiming she could not recall key details of the incident.

The Crown presented recordings of conversations Walker had with police in the days following the murder. In these recordings, Walker expressed his dislike for Breau, stating that he “wanted him dead.” However, he denied any involvement in his murder, claiming that many people wished Breau harm.

A key moment in the trial came when the jury heard a note taken by Det. Const. Duane Squires, who was at the Saint John Regional Hospital on the day of the murder. According to Squires, Ross initially identified Walker as the perpetrator of the crime before changing her story and claiming she did not know the attackers.

As the trial continues, the jury will need to sift through conflicting accounts from witnesses, including those of Walker and Ross, to determine the truth of what happened on August 17, 2022. The trial is scheduled to resume on Wednesday morning.
